Unemployment rate still increasing, but slowing down

A million people have applied for unemployment in Michigan in the month of April.

More than 5-million people applied for unemployment in the US in the past week. It’s a staggering number, but a decline from previous weeks. It brings the total to 22-million in the month of April as efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus shutter businesses across the country.

In Michigan, there were 219,320 new unemployment claims filed the week ending April 11, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Labor published Thursday.

That pushes the state’s unemployment claims over a million since the beginning of the coronavirus spread in Michigan.
