Kalamazoo County is changing who can receive the COVID-19 vaccine as well as how appointments are scheduled.
In a Tuesday news release, the county announced that it will begin scheduling vaccination appointments for several new groups of people.
At the same time, the county is doing away with waiting lists for people eligible for the vaccine due to their age.
New Eligibility: The county is going beyond state rules for vaccine eligibility. Beginning immediately, anyone age 50 or older in Kalamazoo County can make an appointment for vaccination.
In addition, the county is making vaccines available to a variety of front-line workers, including those who work in:
- Grocery stores
- Restaurants and bars
- Veterinary clinics
- Food processing facilities
- Farms
- Local government
- Non-hospital laboratories
WOOD TV 8 reports that Theo and Stacy’s Restaurant was one of the first to sign up for appointments for its employees.
New Scheduling: Some things are not changing. People eligible because of their job will have to register through their employer.
Things are changing for people eligible for the vaccine due to their age.
Beginning next week, the county is doing away with its waiting list, which has ballooned into the tens-of-thousands as some points. Instead of the waiting list, new vaccination appointments will be made available every Monday morning depending on vaccine supply.
Appointments are first-come-first-served, and people age 50 and over can register on the county’s website. People without internet access can call the county’s COVID-19 Call Center at (269) 373-5200.
