Michigan: The number of children being hospitalized for COVID-19 has hit a new peak in Michigan.
On Tuesday, state health officials reported that a record 71 children were being treated for COVID-19 in hospitals in Michigan. That’s seven more than the previous record set a day earlier.
In all, 4,350 people had been hospitalized for the coronavirus on Tuesday. That’s a decline of 72 from the previous day’s record total.
New infection numbers continue to decline in Michigan. The state reported 5,259 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. That pushed the seven day average down to just over 6,000 new infections per day. The average has been declining for most of the past week.
At the same time, deaths from the coronavirus continue to rise. The state reported 85 new deaths on Tuesday, with 33 coming from a review of previous death records. An average of 57 people have died from COVID each day over the past week.
Kalamazoo County: Things are a little different in Kalamazoo, where infections are still climbing but deaths are steady.
County health officials reported 195 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, pusing the seven day average up to 132.6 new cases per day. The county also reported one new death from the coronavirus, which kept the average stable at one death per day over the past week.
