Kalamazoo County’s Department of Health and Community Services (KCHCS) is ramping up its vaccination efforts in an attempt to make more appointments available and get more residents inoculated.
County health officials announced on Monday that they are partnering with Ascension Borgess Hospital and WMed Health to expand mass vaccination clinics held at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center. The goal is to administer more than 10,000 doses weekly.
“As we are seeing cases rise across the state and in Kalamazoo County, it is in our best interest to vaccinate as many people as we can, as quickly as we can,” said county Health Officer Jim Rutherford in a statement. “By combining our resources, we are able to accomplish that.”
As of last week, all Michiganders age 16 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. But only Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine is approved for use with people age 16 to 18.
Appointments for vaccines through the county are released each Monday at 7am, noon, and 5pm. You can register for an appointment through the county’s website.
Vaccine appointments are being offered separately through Bronson Methodist Hospital, the Family Health Center, and a number of local pharmacies such as D&W Pharmacy and Meijer. You can find more vaccination locations at vaccinefinder.org.
