Michigan: As new infection numbers decline, the state reported its lowest single-day new infection count in almost two months.
State health officials reported 2,758 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and 1,825 on Saturday. The latter number is the lowest one-day total we’ve seen since March 13. The count pushed the seven day average down to 2,607 new cases per day.
Meanwhile, daily death numbers are also on the decline. The state reported 30 new deaths on Friday and 122 deaths on Saturday, with 83 of Saturday’s number coming from a review of previous death records. The seven day average fell for the second day in a row to 66.29 deaths per day.
The state’s positivity rate continued to drop on Friday. That day, just 7.47% of COVID-19 tests returned positive results. Averaging for the prior week, Michigan has a positivity rate of 9.14%.
Kalamazoo County: All COVID-19 metrics fell in Kalamazoo County on Friday.
County health officials reported 61 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday. That caused the seven day average to decline to 76 new cases per day.
The county reported no new deaths from the coronavirus, meaning the week average dropped below one death per day for the first time in nearly two weeks.
The county’s positivity rate is still falling slowly. In the week ending Friday, 11.11% of COVID-19 tests conducted in the state returned positive results. That’s down from a high of 17.5% nearly a month ago.
