Kalamazoo hospital to require employees get vaccinated

Ascension Borgess Hospital will require all employees to be vaccinated against COVID and the flu by November.

Anyone working for a hospital or medical center belonging to Ascension Medical Group will have to be vaccinated against COVID-19. That includes Ascension Borgess Hospital, one of Kalamazoo’s two hospitals.

The medical conglomerate made the announcement last week. The requirement will extend beyond just employees – volunteers, vendors, independent physicians, and others will also have to prove vaccination status.

The hospital has a long timeline for getting its employees vaccinated. The requirement won’t go into effect until mid-November. The company will provide exemptions for people based on medical conditions or religious beliefs.

Ascension already requires employees and others to be vaccinated against the flu. That requirement also goes into effect in November.
