Michigan: The average number of new cases of COVID-19 per day has increased by more than 1,000 over the past month.
State health officials reported 8,297 new cases of the coronavirus over the course of Thursday and Friday of last week. That put the seven day average at 3,729 new cases per day. The seven day average was just 2,685 new cases per day on September 15 – 1,044 fewer than on Friday.
The state also reported 104 new deaths from the coronavirus on Friday, with 58 coming from a review of previous death records. That pushed the seven day average to 35.71 deaths per day.
The state’s positivity rate seems to have flattened out last week. In the week ending Friday, 11.31% of COVID-19 tests returned positive results. That’s close to what it was for the previous four days.
Kalamazoo County: Health officials reported two new coronavirus deaths on Friday. Four people total have died from COVID-19 in Kalamazoo over the previous week.
Health officials also reported 195 new cases of the coronavirus over the course of Thursday and Friday. That dropped the county’s seven day average down by three to 85.29 new cases per day.
Kalamazoo’s positivity rate fell below 9% for the first time in over a week. In the week ending Thursday, 8.85% of COVID-19 tests returned positive results. That’s down from a high of 9.38% on October 9.
