The Kalamazoo County Jail is experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19.
In all, 21 sheriff’s deputies and 16 inmates have tested positive for the coronavirus. The first positive test results came on September 30 and everyone infected is being quarantined for ten days.
Sheriff Richard Fuller told MLive that the jail requires people to wear masks and many of the officers and inmates have been vaccinated.
The outbreak comes during a time when the sheriff’s department is already experiencing a staffing shortage.
